Heat Pumps have been around for quite a few years now. They are said to be energy efficient, able to save you tons on your electric bill every month, and be able to cool better in the summer and heat better in the winter. However, you cannot expect your heat pump to last forever and should make sure to inspect it and have it repaired as often as needed. After a while, a heat pump will give out and need to be replaced, but how do you know when that should be? Read on below for a few tips on how to know when it is time to give up the old heat pump and bring in a new one.

Not Cooling and Heating the Way it Should

Since your heat pump is the same unit, when one part of it goes, all parts of it go at the same time. If your unit is not heating and cooling the way that it should, then you might need to go ahead and replace it, instead of paying for repairs.

High Electric Bills

Since a heat pump uses more energy than anything else does in your home, once it stops working properly, you can be sure that your energy bills will soar. If your energy bills are totally out of control, then it is probably time to replace the heat pump with a new one.

Repair Bills are Higher than the Cost of Replacement

If you are suddenly noticing that your repair bills are higher than replacing your unit would be, then you probably need to go ahead and have it replaced. A unit will start being expensive to repair about two years before it goes out and it is better to spend the lump sum than it is to keep trying to repair the unit over time.

These are just a few tips to help you know when it is time to replace your heat pump. From your repair bills being higher than replacement and high electric bills, these are some sure signs that replacement is in your future in the days to come.
