Concrete driveways are common in Minnesota, where these structures are subject to significant weather throughout the year. Your concrete driveway must withstand the harsh winters and hot summers. With constant exposure to the weather, the concrete will inevitably experience wear and tear, fading, and cracking. Concrete requires less maintenance than other substances, such as asphalt pavement. However, it is not uncommon for homeowners to need concrete driveway crack repair in Minnesota.
Why Is My New Concrete Driveway Cracking?
If your concrete driveway is relatively new and cracking, the cracking is most likely due to poor installation. Professionally installed concrete driveways last longer than DIY driveways. The foundation of a concrete driveway consists of crushed stone or gravel that is then layered with an aggregate base. If the crushed stone or gravel is not packed properly or tightly, the concrete will crack. Professional concrete driveway crack repair in Minnesota may be more expensive for driveways that require foundation support and replacement.
How Do Professionals Repair Concrete Cracking?
There are a few different ways professionals will repair your concrete. In minor cases, professional concrete pavers may simply relay or seal the cracks in your driveway. If the ground settled or the soft soil moved, they may install foundational support. Professionals may suggest using crack filler for small areas. Crack resurfacing is a great option for driveways with small cracks along the surface. Typically, these cracks form when the concrete dries too fast and are noticeable shortly after the concrete is poured. For larger cracks, professionals may suggest breaking up the concrete and replacing the driveway.
