It’s not always easy to tell if your child needs help. A lot of teenagers go through an angsty period. But there’s a difference between an angsty child and someone who’s undergoing a serious problem.

How to know?

Find out how your teen is doing at school. Talk to his friends. What do they say? Do they know anything about what’s going on? If you and your child are close, ask him. Sometimes, changes in behavior could be due to factors like peer pressure, friendship problems or school stress. Other times, changes in behavior could be due to something more: drug addiction.

What to look for?

Look for signs that point to drug addiction. Is your teen often depressed? Does he act out school? Is his grades starting to drop? Is he showing eating problems? Does he skip hobbies or activities that used to be important to him? Then those are possible indications of drug use.

What to do?

Accepting the fact that your child has drug problems can be a bitter pill to swallow. But that’s the best place to start. After that, prepare to talk to your child. Do your best not to be angry. Pointing fingers won’t solve anything. Get him to open up to you and tell you what’s going on. It would also be a good idea to educate yourself on what drug addiction does and what you can do to help.

Where to get help?

Make it easier for your child to find the help he needs. Look for rehab centers that offer effective drug treatment programs in Sacramento. The sooner he enrolls in a good drug treatment program in Sacramento, the better his chances are for recovery.

If you see any signs that your teen is struggling with drug abuse, get help. Do it today.
