Ready to move into off-campus student housing at UT Austin? Preparation is the best way to make this move. Here are some tips to make the transition smoother.

1. Application Process

Off-campus housing fills up fast. To guarantee a spot, get applications in early. Most student-centered communities offer no-fee applications, making it cheaper for students to apply.

2. Budget

Students need to know what they can afford. Setting a budget means, one always knows where their money is going and has what one needs to live comfortably. Even if one’s financial aid covers housing costs, a budget is still recommended because it prepares students for college life.

3. Amenities

Yes, it’s college and not a four-year vacation, but that doesn’t mean amenities aren’t important. College students need time to relax and reset their minds. Many students prefer student housing with pools, fitness centers, clubhouses for hanging out, and other social areas. When one needs to get out of the apartment and find a quiet place to study, consider communities with quiet areas too.
